Statement on the Universal Periodic Review of Bulgaria

Statement delivered by Ambassador Vasilika Hysi, Permanent Representative

 

Mr. President,
Albania thanks the Bulgarian delegation for the presentation of its fourth national report.

We welcome the progress made in strengthening the legal framework against discrimination, reforming the judicial system, adopting the anti-corruption law, and initiatives to strengthen civic and human rights education in the education system.

However, some challenges remain, particularly in the areas of gender equality, the protection of women and girls from violence, and the integration of the Roma community.

Albania makes the following recommendations:
1. Continue the effective implementation of the 2023 National Law on Protection against Domestic Violence.
2. Continue the implementation of the National Strategy for Roma Equality, Inclusion, and Participation 2021–2030.
3. Strengthen the fight against gender-based violence.
