Human Rights Council
56th session of the Human Rights Council
18 June to 12 July 2024
Statement delivered during the Interactive Dialogue with COI on Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and Israel
Geneva, 19 June 2024
Thank you, Mr. President,
The Albania position concerning the developments on the ground in both Israel and Gaza is very clear. We have strongly and unequivocally condemned the unprecedented and unjustified terrorists ‘attacks by Hamas against Israel and continues to call for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.
We share the international community’s deepest concerns on the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza. The relentless fights have claimed thousand innocent lives, widespread destruction of the civil infrastructures, continued internal displacement of around 1.9 million people, massive scarcity of food, water, medicines, tents, and other necessities in Gaza.
My country has consistently called for full respect of obligations under international law and human rights law by the parties.
Albania welcomes the adoption of the UNSC Resolution 2735. There is an urgent need to re-establish a political perspective based on the two-state solution.
We strongly believe that there is no other credible and serious path to the future than the two-State solution for guaranteeing a secure and safe Israel and a viable, democratic, and prosperous Palestine, with people living equally in peace and dignity. That is the best way to ensure that October 7th and the tragic loss of life by Palestinian and Israelis will not be repeated.
Thank you.
