Human Rights Council
56th session of the Human Rights Council
18 June to 12 July 2024
Statement delivered during the Interactive Dialogue withthe Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights in the context of climate change
Geneva, 1 July 2024
Thank you, Mr. President,
I would like to thank the Special Rapporteur for her briefing.
Reporting requirements under environmental, social and governance measuresserve as a valuable tool for promoting corporate compliance with human rights obligations and Paris Agreement goals by fostering transparency, accountability, and stakeholder engagement.
Through these reporting frameworks, companies disclose information about their human rights policies, practices, and environmental impacts, demonstrating their commitment to ethical conduct and sustainable practices. This transparency enables stakeholders to hold companies accountable for their actions and encourages collaborative efforts to address social and environmental challenges in line with international standards and agreements.
Albania has taken important steps to address climate change through various policies and initiatives. To build capacity and raise awareness about climate change risks among businesses, Albania has organized training programs, workshops, and educational initiatives to contribute to improved disclosure mechanisms and to encourage corporations to consider climate risks in their investments.
Albania has adopted the national strategy on climate change, which aims to accelerate adaptation to climate change, mitigate its harmful effects, and contribute to global climate change efforts. The purpose of this Strategy is to strengthen adaptation for the benefit of present and future generations.
To conclude, I would like to commend the Special Rapporteur for her efforts to address the adverse effects of climate change on the enjoyment of human rights and for her recommendations on how to address and prevent them.
Thank you.
