Human Rights Council
56th session of the Human Rights Council
18 June to 12 July 2024
Statement delivered during the Interactive Dialogue withthe Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants
Geneva, 25 June 2024
Thank you, Mr. President,
I would like to thank the Special Rapporteur for his briefing and the report regarding the sociocultural, civic-political, and economic contributions of migrants.
Albania notes with concern the findings in the report that despite their substantial contribution, migrants face numerous challenges and human rights violations. The rise of disinformation campaigns against migrants leads to the distortion of public perception of migrants.
Albania recognizes the contribution of migrants, as well as the importance of protecting their rights and their integration into society. The Albanian government is committed to developing effective migration policies, to protecting the rights of migrants and their integration into Albanian society.
The new National Migration Strategy and Action Plan represents the ongoing commitment of Albania to facilitate and promote regular migration, paying attention to addressing the needs of those exposed to vulnerabilities and improving migration policy to ensure social, cohesive, and sustainable development.
Another important aspect is international cooperation to address migration challenges and to share best practices regarding the full integration of migrants into society.
Based on Albania's experience, joint initiatives, ranging from direct support to migrants to the formulation and implementation of migration strategies, capacity-building programs, and awareness campaigns, have produced many positive results. These efforts highlight the power of collaboration to find sustainable and lasting solutions.
Thank you.
