Human Rights Council
56th session of the Human Rights Council
18 June to 12 July 2024
Statement delivered during the Interactive Dialogue withthe Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children
Geneva, 27 June 2024
Thank you, Mr. President,
I would like to thank the Special Rapporteur for her comprehensive briefing and for addressing in her report the complex issue of trafficking in persons or persons at risk of trafficking at sea.
Albania notes with great concern that due to their social and economic situation, women and girls are vulnerable to exploitation and manipulation by human traffickers.
The fight against human trafficking continues to be one of the key priorities of the Albanian government. The anti-trafficking actions are mainly focused on the revitalization and strengthening of national structures for the identification and referral of victims/ potential victims of trafficking; improving the standards of victim identification and protection; the intensification and development of activities for prevention and increasing the public awareness and of the personnel working with the aid services.
Coordination and strengthening of partnerships with international organizations working in the field of anti-trafficking is very important for Albania.
Albania remains committed to preventing and combating human trafficking in persons and to ensuring the protection of individuals and vulnerable groups from trafficking, taking effective legal measures against the perpetrators of the crime of trafficking in persons, as well as protecting and respecting the rights of victims/potential victims of trafficking, especially women and children.
We concur with the Special Rapporteur conclusions on the urgent need to prevent trafficking in persons in the context of migration at sea and to protect victims and persons at risks of trafficking.
Thank you.
