Human Rights Council
56th session of the Human Rights Council
18 June to 12 July 2024
Statement delivered during theInteractive dialogue on the annual report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights
Geneva, 20 June 2024
Thank you, Mr. President,
We thank the High Commissioner and his Office for the Annual Report.
We strongly support the HC and OHCHR efforts on different issues, including strengthening of rules of law; accountability for human rights violations; combating gender-based violence, including violence, sexual exploitation abuses and trafficking; combating racism, racial discrimination and xenophobia. We firmly stand behind your mandate and support its independence.
Major concerns remain across the globe.
In Ukraine, we firmly condemn the targeted attacks against civilian and civilian infrastructures in different Ukrainian regions, use of torture, extrajudicial executions, arbitrary detentions, sexual and gender-based violence and forcible deportation of Ukrainians citizens. Accountability for the unacceptable atrocities, human rights and international humanitarian law violations committed in this war need be guaranteed.
In Afghanistan, introducing discriminatory practices, bans and draconian restrictions against women and girls deprives half of the population from enjoying their human rights and may amount to gender persecution. The realization of women’s and girls’ rights is indispensable for achieving sustainable development, for the prevention and resolution of conflicts, in peacebuilding, and in the humanitarian response.
In Sudan, we are deeply concern about the devastating impact of the conflict, especially on women and children, and the alarming increase in sexual and gender-based violence.
In Iran, the human rights situation remains deeply concerning, not least for women, protesters, human rights defenders and persons belonging to ethnic and religious minorities.
High Commissioner, Albania remains committed to closely cooperate with your Office and other UN human rights mechanisms.
Thank you.
