Human Rights Council
Mr President,
Albania aligns with the EU statement. Albania is committed to promoting and protecting human rights everywhere.
We are closely following the developments in Kosova, especially in the north of the country.
Respect for human rights, the rule of law and democracy are the best guarantees of peace and security in Kosova and in the region.
Albania expresses its concern over the false information coming from Serbia targeting Kosova. Attempting to manipulate the international discourse is not necessarily a real concern for the Serbian community living in Kosova. This attitude goes against peaceful coexistence and regional stability. We reject all such distortions.
The deadly terrorist attack of September last year in Banjska was the gravest in a string of such attempts. Those responsible for the attack have not so far been held to account. They must be brought to justice, and we expect Belgrade to collaborate in full to that end.
The Republic of Kosova has democratic and accountable institutions and provides the highest standards of human and community rights, which are guaranteed by the Constitution.
The Serbs in Kosova, contrary to what was said today by Serbia, fully enjoy their rights and have the right to be represented at all levels of governance.
The Serbian minority enjoys all constitutional guarantees, including protection of cultural and religious heritage and access to essential services, in line with international human rights standards.
All citizens of Kosova, without distinction, can and must receive the necessary services through the official and legitimate institutions of Kosova.
The sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kosova, as well as its right to consolidate public order and democratic and multi-ethnic institutions, must not be called into question.
Finally, the rhetoric of division is counterproductive and undermines efforts towards peace, regional cooperation and European integration.
Kosova and Serbia must engage constructively in the EU-facilitated dialogue process. This is the best platform to resolve outstanding issues and normalize relations, with a view to reaching an agreement on mutual recognition between the two countries.
Thank you.
