At the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Greece, the Consulate General of the Republic of Albania in Thessaloniki, and the Balkan Languages Department of the Institute for Balkan Studies (IMHA) in Thessaloniki, a virtual meeting was organized on the topic “Albanian Language – Teaching and Certification.”
The meeting was attended by the Albanian Ambassador to Greece, Mrs. Luela Hajdaraga; the Consul General of Albania in Thessaloniki, Ms. Erida Dobrushi; and the Director of IMHA, Ms. Smaragda Arvanitidou. Also present were educators and teachers involved in supplementary Albanian language courses in Greece.
During the meeting, educators and members of the IMHA certification commission, Mr. Stavri Dajo and Ms. Xhensila Kodra, presented the framework for teaching the Albanian language at the institute, including the rules for participating in the certification exams and the criteria for obtaining certificates recognized by the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). They also provided examples of exercises from the certification exams and shared educational materials that support this process.
Ambassador Hajdaraga expressed her gratitude to the teachers and educators for their dedication, emphasizing the continued support from the Embassy of Albania in Athens, the Consulate in Thessaloniki, and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs for all efforts aimed at strengthening the Albanian language in Greece and achieving its official certification. She underscored the importance of ensuring that our language occupies a stable and respected position within the educational system, not only in Greece but also within a broader European context.
