The Minister of Tourism and Environment of the Republic of Albania, Ms. Mirela Kumbaro Furxhi, participated in the 9th World Conference on “Our Ocean,” held on April 16-17, 2024, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.
During this conference, which brought together participants from over 119 countries, the shared commitment to addressing the major challenges facing our seas and oceans was reaffirmed. These challenges primarily include biodiversity loss, climate change, unsustainable fishing, and marine pollution. Effective ideas and practices were exchanged on both ecological and socio-economic aspects, with a focus on the “blue economy.”
In the panel on “Sustainable Tourism and the Blue Economy,” Minister Kumbaro highlighted the achievements of Albanian tourism and shared her vision for sustainable development.
Additionally, Minister Kumbaro had the opportunity to meet with various officials, including: the Greek Minister of Tourism, Ms. Olga Kefalogianni; the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Theodhoros Skylakakis; and the Mayor of Athens, Mr. Haris Doukas, among others, to strengthen collaboration between the two countries.
