“The Golden Pens of Our Country” was a literary event organized by the Embassy at the “New York” University campus, featuring writers Fatmir Toçi with his work “The Arbëresh – The Albanians of Italy,” Thanas Medi with “The Athens Asylum,” and Ylljet Aliçkaj with “The Waltz of Happiness.” The event was attended by artists, poets, art critics, and readers of the authors’ works.
During the event, it was emphasized that all three authors have contributed to securing a place for Albanian literature within European literature, and with their unique voices, they have transcended the boundaries of time and space.
“We are here to celebrate,” said Ambassador Luela Hajdaraga in her speech, “not only their individual achievements but also the rich tapestry of Albanian literature. Their words have the power to cross borders, bridge the past and present, and speak to the essence of our shared humanity.”
Editors from the publishing houses “By the Book” and “Euroasia Public,” who have translated the works of Thanas Medi and Ylljet Aliçkaj into Greek, were also present at the event. For these publishers, these writers highlight the profound impact that literature can have in reflecting societal issues and fostering connections between people, regardless of current challenges. Meanwhile, according to Irena Toçi, Director of the publishing house “Toena,” the scholarly work on the Arbëresh of Italy is a living testament to the enduring power of tradition and the resilience of the human spirit.
