On February 13, 2025, Ambassador Ilirian Kuka held a meeting at the Ministry of the Interior with the Deputy Secretary of State for EU and International Affairs, Mr. Matyas Hegyaljai, focusing on the changes in the law on the employment of foreign citizens applying for a residence permit in Hungary for the first time and also on increasing cooperation between our two countries.
Regarding the changes in the law on the employment of foreigners, from January 1, 2025, only foreign citizens who have a diploma and apply for job positions requiring high qualifications can apply for a residence permit in Hungary for the first time.
Only three countries are exempt from this law: the Philippines, Armenia and Georgia. For all other countries, the application process for a work visa for simple workers has been blocked. Residence permits for investment purposes or seasonal work are not part of this change
