Albania and Italy signed today (February 6) the agreement for mutual recognition of pensions between the two countries for Albanian and Italian citizens. After the signing of the agreement in Rome, Foreign Minister Igli Hasani said that this is an important moment for all Albanians who have contributed to Italy for years, but also Italians who work in our country.
“A very important moment. 15 years of very important effort that was signed today and I am happy for all the cooperation we have had with the Italian authorities. This is a very important moment for all Albanians and their contribution to Italy”, said Hasani.
Even the Italian foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, said that this firm was expected after 15 years of work and discussions between the two parties.
“A very important agreement that we have been waiting for this company for about 15 years. The firm that we finalized today guarantees the pension rights of Italian employees in Albania and Albanians in Italy. This joint decision offers many people security for the future”, said Tajani.
With the signing of the Agreement on Social Security between Albania and Italy, over 500,000 Albanians living and working in the neighboring country will benefit. The two countries have been working for a long time on the recognition of mutual pensions, while the agreement on the technical agreement was reached in July 2022.
The agreement will serve all Albanians living and working in Italy, but also Italians working in Albania, as through it it will be possible to recognize their contributions for the effect of old-age pensions, sickness and maternity benefits, as well as insurance for unemployment.
