The President of the Republic, Sh. Mr. Bajram Begaj, on May 1, continued his tour in Calabria with visits to Arbëre villages previously not visited by Albanian presidents.San Martino di Finita, San Benedetto Ullano and Cerzeto were the other three municipalities of Cosenza that hosted the President of the State today.
In the square of San Martino di Finita, at the entrance of which there is a double-headed eagle, he was received by the leaders of the municipality and Arbëresh and Albanian residents, who have been there since the 90s. In addition to the history preserved in the architecture, San Martino di Finita also has all its ancient past archived in the municipal library.
President Begaj visited the library and the church built by the people of Arbëresh at the beginning of the 16th century and conveyed the message of continuing the tradition to promote this historical treasure.
“This is a request made to the Arbëresh Foundation of Calabria to visit all Arbëresh municipalities, a request related to the opportunity to meet together, to listen to each other, to enable the realization of all needs and problems solvable that you may have”, – emphasized the President from San Martino di Finita, while expressing the belief that apart from him, who is the first Albanian President to visit these municipalities, other dignitaries will come later to enable an exchange ideas and visions for the common future.
“I believe that after my first visit we achieved something. Rai Calabria already has a program in Arberian”, – said President Begaj, who promised other projects, which should serve young people, as they will be the ones who will inherit and promote the values of Arberian and the nation.
Then President Begaj visited the ancient city, San Benedetto Ullano, where he was received by residents dressed in traditional costumes, who accompanied him during the visits to the Museum of Palazzo Bisciglia, where every document of the first arborists who built these regions is kept. as well as in the church built by the Rodota family originally from Shkodra.
“I am here to thank you for all the food you give to patriotism every day, food that begins with the protection and use of the Arber language, and continues to be told every day with your stories and the portals that you have just developed as projects for continued to address the history of Arberia”, – said President Begaj, evaluating the project “Le Porte Narranti” in San Benedetto Ullano, with old painted doors that preserve the identity heritage, history and language of Arberia.
