Sorrow, pain, resistance, heroism, faith, and commitment to ensure the Holocaust is never repeated. These were the messages conveyed by the survivors of the Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz during the commemorative ceremony held on January 27, 2025, marking 80 years since its liberation.
The Republic of Albania is proud of the contribution, courage, and sacrifices of the Albanian people in saving Jews from the inhuman terror of Nazism during World War II. In those dark times, Albania became a second home for Jews, and today it stands as a respected international model of protection and humanity toward them.
The commemorative ceremony was attended by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Igli Hasani, as well as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Albania to the Republic of Poland, Ms. Mimoza Halimi. Their presence was a testament to Albania’s ongoing commitment to honoring historical memory and safeguarding the truth of the Holocaust, ensuring such atrocities are never repeated.
