Albania’s chief negotiator for the country’s EU integration, Ambassador Zef Mazi, paid an official visit to Finland on October 8, where he met with the MFA, Pekka Haavisto.
At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on a number of important issues, such as regional cooperation, decisions on the negotiating framework for Albania and the first intergovernmental conference, the impasse and blockage of progress due to the disagreement between Bulgaria and North Macedonia, etc.
Minister Haavisto was presented with Albania’s clear position, including arguments, on why the conference should be held as soon as possible. It was emphasized that the only alternative is the continuation of the integration process.
Minister Haavisto confirmed the Finnish side’s understanding, congratulation and support for Albania’s fulfillment of all the Council’s requirements for holding the conference. Finland’s position has been and is a clear supporter of the continuation of the enlargement process and that Albania has met the requirements for holding the first intergovernmental conference.
Chief negotiator Zef Mazi held a series of meetings with representatives of various Finnish institutions.
During the visit to Finland, Chief Negotiator Zef Mazi was accompanied by the Ambassador of RSH to Finland (non-resident), Virgjil Kule.
