Welcome word from the Ambassador
Mission of Albania in the UN
Albania joined the United Nations in 1955. As a nation that has experienced war, conflict, separation, oppression, mass migration, until it engaged in early 90s into an irreversible path of democracy, an open society, Albania’s course to modern development has embraced the aims and objectives of the UN Charter.
Dialogue, confidence building, fostering good relations with neighbors and multilateral diplomacy – with the United Nations at its center – constitute the cornerstone of Albania’s foreign policy. Albania remains convinced that a rules-based international order with effective multilateral institutions is the best way to ensure peace, security, and respect for human rights, development and prosperity.
As a member to the most relevant regional and international organizations, a NATO ally and a candidate country to the European Union, Albania is committed to playing an ever more active role in support of United Nations activities in the fields of the maintenance of international peace and security, international humanitarian law, arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation, sustainable economic development, climate change, good governance, security, the promotion and protection of human rights, including the protection of women’s rights and support for women’s empowerment, protecting the vulnerable, and working together with all member states to ensure a better and more dignified life for all.
In particular, membership to the Security Council during 2022- 2023 offers Albania the unique opportunity to bring the perspective of a small country but a reliable partner, desirous and capable to actively engage in addressing threats to global peace and security.
It is an immense privilege to serve as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations where together with my team and colleagues from all over the world, we will join our efforts to tackle the many challenges our planet is facing. We will spare no effort in making our contribution.
