
The viceminister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania Ms. Megi Fino, represented Albania in the 135-th session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe that took part in Chisinau Republic of Moldova on the 14th and 15th of May 2026.
At the focus of the conference were issues related to the support for Ukraine, strengthening of democratic security in Europe, “The new Democratic Pact” of the CoE, fight against manipulation and foreign interference in information as well as the role of the Council of Europe in protection of democracy, human rights and rule of law.
During the meeting, Viceminister Fino, reconfirmed the unconditioned support of Albania for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine as well as for accountability towards Russian aggression.
Viceminister Fino presented as well the support of Albania for a more active, more practical and more politically present Council of Europe in conformity with its fundamental mission-protection of democracy, human rights and rule of law. She emphasized the importance of the “New democratic pact for Europe” and for the support to answer to the foreign interference and disinformation without touching upon the freedom of expression, political pluralism and democratic space.
During her intervention, viceminister Fino restated that the membership of Kosovo in the Council of Europe remains necessary and delayed. She further emphasized that inclusion of Kosovo to the European system of rights, standards, obligations and dialogue would strengthen Kosovo as well as the mission of the Council of Europe.
Within the framework of the Ministerial, viceminister Fino participated also in roundtables on: democratic security , FIMI-n and elections integrity where she presented the approach of Albania following the approval in July 2025 of the “National Strategy against foreign interference and disinformation 2025-2030” . Albania supports a coordinated European answer towards these challenges, based in institutional resilience, transparency, media education, international cooperation and full respect for fundamental rights .
