On March 24, 2026, in Cairo, bilateral diplomatic consultations were held between the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, headed by the Assistant Minister for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, Ambassador Waed Hamid, and the delegation of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, headed by the Director General of Political and Strategic Affairs, Mr. Gazmend Barbullushi, with the participation of the Ambassador of Albania to Egypt, Sami Shiba.

In the first session of consultations, after discussing the progress of bilateral cooperation in all areas and expressing the joint commitment to deepen and concretize cooperation, the following was agreed:

– Realization of the visit to Tirana of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, at an appropriate time,

– Referring to the Protocol of the First Session of the Joint Economic Cooperation Commission, which was held in Tirana on December 12-14, 2025, sending an invitation from the Egyptian side, for the holding in Cairo, of the Second Session, within the second half of 2026;

– Continuation of periodic diplomatic consultations;

– Continuation by the Egyptian side of training for young diplomats, as well as for officers from the Ministry of Interior of Albania, with the possibility of increasing the number and adding other fields;

– Development of meetings/consultations at the level of the Ministries of Tourism, exchange of reciprocal visits, with the aim of closer cooperation in sectors of common interest, and in this context, the creation of facilities for the movement of citizens, which will also lead to an increase in the number of tourists;

– Encouraging Albanian and Egyptian investors to be more present in their respective countries, by creating the necessary conditions and facilities;

– Increasing the volume of trade exchanges between the two countries;

– Within the legal framework, reviewing the proposal for the signing of the Readmission Agreement, initiating the Agreement in the field of Tourism, as well as accelerating the procedures for all Agreements and Memorandums of Cooperation that are already in process, with the aim of signing them during the expected visits. such as those for Air Transport, Maritime Transport, the field of Agriculture and Fisheries, in the field of Higher Education, Health and Pharmaceuticals, Labor/regulation of the movement of workers, Social Protection, Archives, Radio and Television, TV etc.;

– Continuing mutual support of candidacies in various international organizations etc.

Regarding the second session that included developments in the respective regions and international ones, the discussions of the Egyptian side highlighted; the presentation of the role, contribution and position of Egypt in the LM space with emphasis on the demonstration of its political will to mediate in the resolution of the US + Israel conflict with Iran; presentation of the situation in Gaza and in Palestine as a whole, the Horn of Africa, including the Grand Ethiopian Dam on the Nile River, and in Libya etc., on which the Albanian side presented its political opinions and positions.

Following the discussion of the issues of this session, the Albanian side made a full presentation of the progress of Albania’s EU integration process, developments in the region, the constructive role, as well as Albania’s already appreciated contribution.
