Warsaw, Poland, 8 May 2025 – The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Igli Hasani, participated today in the Informal Working Lunch with EU Foreign Ministers and Foreign Ministers of Candidate and Potential Candidate Countries for EU membership, held within the framework of the Informal Meeting of EU Foreign Ministers.
The focus of this meeting was the exchange of views on current geopolitical challenges and the need to strengthen collective resilience against hybrid threats.
Minister Hasani reconfirmed Albania’s unwavering commitment to moving forward on the path of European integration, and shared with those present some of the steps taken so far by our country against hybrid threats and in full alignment with the EU and NATO framework.
He mentioned the adoption of the Strategy and Action Plan for Cybersecurity, the approximation with EU regulations on the resilience of critical infrastructure by 2026, as well as the implementation of secondary legislation under the Law on Cybersecurity by 2025. Albania’s membership in the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats in Helsinki, as the 36th member, was highlighted as an important step for deepening cooperation and exchanging best practices.
“No country is immune to hybrid threats, therefore we must remain vigilant and work closely together.” – underlined Minister Hasani, adding that our country is also ready to contribute to building a regional cooperation framework between the Western Balkan countries under the EU umbrella, in order to address disinformation and hybrid threats.
Among other things, Minister Hasani stressed that EU enlargement should be a top priority, as it guarantees our common future against such threats while contributing at the same time to preserving the unity of Europe.
During quick meetings with various counterparts from the EU, Minister Hasani took the opportunity to convey his gratitude towards the common position of the EU Council for the Group Chapter 3 on “Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth”, which will be officially opened at the 5th Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels on 22 May 2025.
He stressed that Albania’s commitment to EU integration remains unwavering and unwavering, and that our work continues with focus and determination to advance the accession process.
