52nd Session of the UPR
Statement on the UPR by Estonia
5 May 2026
Statement by Ms. Vasilika Hysi, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Albania
Mr. President,
Albania welcomes the delegation of Estonia and thanks them for the presentation of the National Report.
We acknowledge the progress made by Estonia over the past five years.
We welcome the advances in gender equality, anti-discrimination policies, and innovative initiatives such as the EquiTech project, which aims to ensure the fair and non-discriminatory use of artificial intelligence in the public sector.
However, significant challenges remain, including the need to combat discrimination and strengthen the protection of the rights of children and women, particularly in the face of gender-based violence.
Furthermore, the rapid development of new technologies raises concerns related to the protection of privacy, personal data, and the risk of algorithmic discrimination.
Albania recommends that Estonia:
- Strengthen child protection mechanisms.
- Intensify efforts to prevent and combat gender-based violence.
- Ensure that the use of artificial intelligence and automated systems complies with human rights principles.
Thank you.
