13/10/2020 - The Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj is in Malta, where he is having a two-day official visit.
Chief Diplomat Cakaj started his visit meeting his counterpart Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Malta Evarist Bartolo.
During the meeting, the counterparts emphasized the importance of signing the Friendship Treaty between the two countries as an expression of the will to promote and further intensify the excellent relations.
Further the discussion was focused on the real potential that the two countries have for economic cooperation and the need to further deepen the cooperation with a special focus on energy, tourism, technology and environment. In this framework, the interlocutors discussed in particular at the program supporting Albanian diplomats in their higher studies, and also the establishment of the commission for economic cooperation between the two countries.
The two ministers also agreed to increase cooperation in the framework of the UN Security Council, as the two countries have agreed on the reciprocal support for the non- permanent seat candidacies, respectively of Albania 2022-2023 and Malta 2023-2024.
The Acting Minister Cakaj also valued the support of Malta to Albania in its European path, as a very important factor, to hold the First Intergovernmental Meeting with the European Union, during the German Presidency.
