The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Olta Xhaçka, welcomed today in Tirana the Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jeppe Kofod, who is on a two-day official visit to Albania.
In a press statement after the meeting, Minister Xhaçka praised the support that Denmark has given to Albania on its path towards EU integration.
She said that Denmark has been one of the strictest and most demanding judges regarding Albania's progress and that its support is a clear proof that the progress made has been tangible and convincing.
"We had the opportunity to talk closely about everything we have done, but also about the difficult conditions in which this really great work has been done to meet every EU requirement. “I had the opportunity to express the high expectations we have from the next meeting of the EU Council, as a country that already deserves it and is fully ready for the approval of the negotiating framework and the holding of the First Intergovernmental Conference", said the Minister after meeting with her Danish counterpart.
Minister Xhaçka expressed gratitude for the contribution of the Danish government in coping with the consequences of the 2019 earthquake and in the fight against the pandemic. She guaranteed cooperation with Denmark in the field of protection of women's rights and climate issues during Albania´s term as a non- permanent member of the UN Security Council, a position which Denmark intends to take in 2025-2026.
This is the first visit of a Danish Foreign Minister to Albania, since the visit of Per Stiger Moller 15 years ago.
