Xhaçka meets Hungarian counterpart: Regional integration strengthens EU security

12.02.2021 - Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, welcomed in a meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó, who paid a one-day visit to Albania.
The two ministers highlighted that Albania has fulfilled the requirements and shared the same view that the European integration of the Western Balkans is a necessity for the security of the union itself.
“We have done our homework! We expect the EU to keep its promise of holding the First Intergovernmental Conference during the Portuguese Presidency. Albania will continue with the reforms and the work for the modernization of the country. It will also continue to play a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability in our region, as it has done so far,” said Minister Xhaçka during the joint press statement.
“We will ask the United Europe and the countries that are not so sensitive to the issues of the Western Balkans, to start the talks as soon as possible for the integration of Albania and the region. This is important from a security point of view. We are seeing that the pressure of illegal immigration on the Western Balkans is escalating. To successfully stop this immigration, it is important to have close co-operation within the EU,” said Minister Szijjártó.
The conversation was also focused on economic relations. Minister Xhaçka stressed that, economic diplomacy is a priority for both countries. On this, she assured her counterpart that Hungarian investors in Albania will find a hospitable and favorable environment for their investments.
Regarding Hungarian investments in Albania, the Hungarian Minister said that very soon a Hungarian company will soon build a solar power station with a capacity of 4MV, thus increasing domestic capacity and helping to reduce energy imports for Albania.
