Minister of Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic, Paolo Gentiloni.
Both ministers praised the excellent level of relations and cooperation between the two countries.
Minister Bushati highly appreciated the support that Italy has given and continues to give to the European integration process of our country and that of regional cooperation, in the spirit of the Berlin Process. In this regard, Minister Bushati expressed his gratitude to Minister Gentiloni for the willingness to further promote and encourage this cooperation.
On his part, Minister Gentiloni affirmed that Italy will continue to strongly support Albania among member countries in terms of the opening of EU accession negotiations in the upcoming weeks and months.
The two Ministers highlighted that cooperation between Italy and Albania has been very successful in the Adriatic area and may constitute a model in coping with the crisis that the EU faces today. In this framework, they discussed the current crises facing the continent, especially that concerning the tide of refugees.
Ministers also focused on ways of dealing with all aspects of energy security in the region, noting that after the trilateral meeting between Albania, Italy and Serbia held earlier this year, it is necessary that the performance and progress of regional energy projects is also discussed in such formats.
During this meeting, they also discussed the latest developments in the region, where Bushati focused on Kosovo's membership in UNESCO and underlined that Albania encourages Italy's support in this regard.
