Minister Bushati in the United States of America holding talks in the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives
 
21 March 2-17.The visit of Minister Bushati in Washington D.C. started with a series of meetings in the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives.
At meeting with Senator Chris Murphy, member of the special Commission for Europe, interlocutors particularly dwelt on recent developments in the region, the importance of Albanian-U.S. strategic partnership, the progress of cooperation in the security field, and the course of reforms in the rule of law in our country.
Minister Bushati highlighted the dynamic and constructive engagement of Albania in the region, our contribution in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism and the progress of the state-consolidating reforms in Albania, in the framework of the EU integration process.
By analyzing the current destabilizing factors in our region, Senator Murphy expressed his assessment for the course of the state-consolidating reforms, Albanian-U.S. cooperation within the framework of NATO, as well as our dynamic and principled commitment for more security in the region and in facing common challenges such as the fight against ISIS. Also Senator Murphy reaffirmed the special role of the U.S., as an irreplaceable actor for the security and prosperity of South Eastern Europe.
At meeting with the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Ed Royce and Congressman Eliot Engel, talks focused on the importance of bilateral cooperation in the process of reforms in rule of law in our country, with a special regard to the implementation of the judicial reform.
Dwelling on the importance of judicial reform, parties discussed its transformative effects, not only in the citizens’ daily routine, but also from a security perspective and of rule of law in the economy.
While praising the course of reforms in the rule of law in Albania, Congressmen Royce and Engel, expressed the U.S. Congress’s willingness in supporting their further consolidation, as a field where the U.S. have invested extensive human resources and financial support during the past three decades.
