Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati received the acting Minister for Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, Ivan Korčok. During the meeting Minister Bushati expressed his gratitude to Minister Korčok for Slovakia's continued support to Albania's integration processes and the enlargement process.
The two Ministers discussed the deepening of bilateral co-operation. They focused particularly on the economic cooperation they shared about the importance of intensifying economic exchanges, which did not respond to the very good political relations and real opportunities between the two countries.
Minister Bushati informed his colleague on the progress of reforms in Albania, the launch of the Vetting process and the measures taken by the Albanian government in meeting the five key priorities in the integration process, focusing on the opening of accession negotiations. Minister Korcok praised the progress made by Albania and said that Slovakia is committed to deepening the cooperation between the two countries.
Both ministers stated that enlargement is the right policy not only to positively transform member and candidate countries but also the best way to contribute to European security and peace. Minister Bushati underlined that "the process of transformation and democratization has a direct link with the European integration agenda. 2018 is an open window, a golden opportunity for the European Union and the Western Balkans, including Albania.
On his part, Minister Korcok said that "after a decade of difficulties, after we have passed a lot of tests, the EU can finally think not only of an internal agenda but also of the aspirations of the Western Balkans, who is looking forward to link his future to that of the European family, and we appreciate that. You know what you need and 2018 offers a good perspective. " This visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
