Slovak acting Minister Korcok ends his visit in Albania

The two-day visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of Slovakia, Ivan Korçok to Albania came to an end. During the visits on 6-7 March 2018, the Slovak Foreign Minister met with the highest political figures in Albania; President of the Republic of Albania, Ilir Meta, Parliament Speaker Gramos Ruçi, Deputy Prime Minister Senida Mesi, and Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati. The focus of the meetings of Minister Korçok in Tirana was the European agenda of Albania on its way toward the European path. The visit comes at a crucial moment in bilateral relations; the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Albania and Slovakia.

During the meeting with the President of Albania, it was expressed the gratitude for Slovakia's support to Albania in the framework of the European integration process. Referring to the fulfillment of the five key priorities, President Meta expressed confidence that Slovakia will continue to support Albania even for the opening of EU membership negotiations. It was also appreciated the stable and growing interest of Slovakia on the stability and development of the Western Balkans region.

At the meeting with the Parliament Speaker Ruci, it was praised the friendly relations between the two countries and our peoples and expressed the common will for further developing the good bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Minister Korcok said that the Western Balkan countries should overcome the past, strengthen their political and economic co-operation and enable to resolve the issues in order to consolidate their progress towards European Union membership.Minister Korcok appreciates the steps taken by Albania to meet the obligations of EU membership and expressed his support for Albanian Integration Process. He also pointed out that 2018 will be a good year for Albania's aspiration for EU integration.

At the meeting with the country's deputy prime minister, Senida Mesi the two representatives focused on the European Integration Process. The Deputy Prime Minister thanked Minister Korçok for the support that Slovakia has given and still gives Albania on the path to European integration. At this meeting it was also discussed about the intensification of political and economic cooperation and the promotion of economic relations between the two countries.

Minister Korcok also met with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, During this meeting Bushati expressed gratitude to Minister Korčok for Slovakia's continued support to Albania's integration processes and the enlargement process as a whole. Ministers discussed the deepening of bilateral cooperation, focusing particularly on economic cooperation. Minister Bushati informed Minister Korcok about the progress of reforms in Albania, the launch of the Vetting process and the measures taken by the Albanian government in meeting the five key priorities in the integration process, focusing on the opening of accession negotiations. Minister Korcok praised the progress made by Albania and said that after a decade of difficulties, after we have passed tests, the EU can finally think of not only an internal agenda but also the aspirations of the Western Balkans, who is looking forward to link his future to that of the European family.
