Today, on 23.04.2023, it will be three decades since the Republic of Albania established diplomatic relations with the Principality of Liechtenstein. This anniversary is a meaningful history of a friendly relationship between two countries.
Albania and Liechtenstein during these three decades have maintained positive and constructive relations both bilaterally and multilaterally. At the bilateral level, both countries have cooperated in various fields, including culture, education and tourism. Also, both countries have closely developed relations on a multilateral level for areas of mutual interest, especially in the context of international organizations such as the UN, the Council of Europe and others.
Both countries have shown strong support for issues related to peace and security, human rights and sustainable development. Albania and Liechtenstein have also worked together to promote cooperation and dialogue between the countries of the Western Balkans. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries and the respective diplomatic missions have close relationship with constant contacts at all levels. Both countries cooperate closely on issues of mutual interest such as the promotion of democracy and human rights.
During these years, Liechtenstein has provided Albania with valuable assistance during the most significant moments of recent history, such as Albania's transition period towards building a democratic state or, lately, the assistance provided after the 2019 earthquake. During Albania's transition period , at the beginning of the 1990s, Liechtenstein was close to Albania offering help and assistance in building the democratic institutions. Likewise, after the devastating earthquake of 2019, Liechtenstein did not hesitate to offer its help. The government of Liechtenstein also provided financial assistance in support of the reconstruction efforts.
This type of cooperation and solidarity are clear indicators of strength and importance on building positive relations between the two countries. These relations will continue to be strengthened and deepened in the future to the benefit of both countries.
