Albania and Human Rights Council

Albania was a member of the Human Rights Council (HRC) during 2015-2017. It currently holds the status of observer, maintaining a high level of representation thanks to a positive coordination and a new dynamic of organizing and overseeing the activities of the HRC.

The Mission of the Republic of Albania in Geneva, based on the instructions of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, carries out its activity to guarantee the active role of the country within the HRC, in implementation of the key priorities of the Republic of Albania, regarding the observance and promotion of human rights, through active participation in HRC sessions and statements in national capacity, compliance with EU declarations, cooperation and the development of informal negotiations in the process of increasing the efficiency and reform of the HRC, etc.

Albania remains committed to uphold the charter of the UN, convinced that a rules-based international order with effective multilateral institutions is the best way to ensure peace, security, and respect for human rights, development and prosperity.
