The Security Council renewed the mandate of UNSMIL

New York – 31 January 2022 | Today, the members of the Security Council adopted unanimously the UNSCR 2619 (2022) on the short-term renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya ((UNSMIL) until 30 April 2022.

In the Explanation of Vote that followed the adoption of S/RES/2619(2022), Deputy Permanent Representative of Albania to the UN, Ms. Albana Dautllari highlighted that, Albania would have preferred the substantive renewal of UNSMIL as originally proposed and placed from the UK penholder. She underlined that Albania still believes that the only way to have a peaceful stable and prosperous Libya is through an inclusive Libyan-led political process supported by a strong mediating role of the United Nations.  She further expressed full support of Albania for the work of the UN Secretary-General Special Advisor on Libya, and the work of the mission.
