
On 18 May 2017, in the framework of a study tour to the European Institutions in Brussels, of a group of Albanian young and skilled professionals, participants at the Leadership Experience and Development program (LEAD Albania 2017) of the Albanian American Development Foundation (AADF) for 2017, a meeting was organized with the Head of the Mission of Albania to the EU, Ambassador Suela Janina and the diplomats at the Mission.
There was an exchange of views on the situation in the European Union in terms of discussions related to its future up to 2025, as well as on its renewed geostrategic focus on the Western Balkans region, due to recent internal developments in the countries of the region that can lead to destabilization and the efforts of the third actors to halt or reverse the European and Euroatlantic integration processes of the countries of the region.
The participants were informed on the progress of the European Integration process of Albania after the European Commission recommendation to open accession negotiations in the Report on Albania 2016, the concretization of the Council’s mandate on the intensification of the technical cooperation between the European Commission and Albania in the field of the rule of law and the expectations on the follow up of the process in 2017, in view of the recent positive political developments in Albania.
