Minister Bushati in Rome in the context of Albania's European agenda

Foreign Affairs Minister Ditmir Bushati attended the Conference Rome MED 2016 - Mediterranean Dialogues, which held its proceedings in Rome. The main subject of this conference was security challenges that Mediterranean region is facing with and migratory flows generated by the conflict areas.

Interlocutors, such as Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States of the Holy See, and Emma Bonino, former Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, insisted on the importance of long-term policies in Europe which would ensure at the same time the humanitarian obligations to populations at risk and the need for social cohesion in the context of unprecedented migratory flows.

Dwelling on the history of the Albanian immigration in Italy, Minister Bushati highlighted the special positive contribution that immigration can make when accompanied by efficient integration policies. "The Albanian community is the best integrated community within the Italian society and this is achieved thanks to the hospitality but also thanks to the cooperation with the Italian authorities, which served to strengthening bilateral relations as well" – Minister Bushati said.

Minister Bushati also focused on the successful collaboration among Western Balkan countries thereby proving that the region could make up a strong link to the continent's security. "In a context of high uncertainty, this cooperation constitutes good news" - Minister Bushati said – "which should be reflected in the advancement of the enlargement process, since the EU should maintain a positive and strategic approach in the region, in order to avoid that European integration turns into a technical process lacking political soul".

In the framework of his visit to Rome, Minister Bushati held a meeting with the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni. Talks dwelt on the advancement of the European integration process and further coordination of preparatory steps for the opening of negotiations for Albania's membership in the European Union. Minister Bushati thanked his counterpart Gentiloni for the strong support and recommendation without reservation that his country continues to give to Albania's integration process. "Cooperation with Italy is guiding to Albania and stabilizing to the countries of the Adriatic region" Minister Bushati said.

On the eve of the Informal NATO Meeting, the interlocutors shared the same views on the advancement of crisis in the east and south of the alliance.

Furthermore, in the framework of bilateral mechanisms to strengthen economic cooperation, the two Ministers discussed the issue of the new legal provisions on Italian companies operating in our country and in particular the problems with the "Call Center" companies. Both ministers agreed that the competent bodies would work intensively to find a solution acceptable to both sides.
