Statement of Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs on local elections in the Municipality of Tuzi

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs is paying particular attention to the campaign for the local elections for the Municipality of Tuzi, to be held on 3 March 2019. These are the first elections after the establishment of the Independent Commune of Tuzi, which constitutes an important development in meeting a legitimate demand of the Albanian population of this area. We express our conviction that the election process will be in conformity with the best international standards.

The union of the main Albanian parties in the pre-election alliance “Albanian Forum” under the motto “Malësia brings us together” is a wise and patriotic step towards maximizing the votes of Albanians in the Municipality of Tuzi. It is now the historic moment that the Albanians of Tuzi and Malësia, with the valuable help of Diaspora compatriots, take on themselves the responsibilities of the management of the Municipality. Therefore, this coalition, as an example of the unification of the Albanian political factor, deserves special consideration and strong support.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs notes that Montenegrin Albanians have made a special contribution to the country’s most important processes, from independence to Montenegro’s NATO membership. Albanians, even in the future, will remain an important factor in Montenegro’s progress and a strong link between the two friendly countries.
