At the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year, the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Greece held a virtual meeting with approximately 80 teachers engaged in supplementary Albanian language education across Greece.

The meeting brought together teachers participating in the “Teachers for Greece” programme, teachers from supplementary Albanian language courses, and members of the Association of Albanian Teachers in Greece. Discussions focused on the challenges, needs and opportunities for further strengthening Albanian language education within the diaspora.

The Minister of Education, Ms Mirela Kumbaro Furxhi, addressed the meeting and expressed her appreciation for the commitment of teachers to preserving and transmitting the Albanian language. She underlined the importance of continued cooperation to increase the number of Albanian teachers in Greece within the framework of the “Teachers for Greece” programme.

In her remarks, Ambassador Hajdaraga highlighted the valuable contribution of teachers and the Albanian community, emphasising the importance of preserving the Albanian language, culture and identity and ensuring their transmission to younger generations.

The Association of Albanian Teachers in Greece continues to play an important role in this endeavour. Through the active engagement and cooperation of teachers, the Association contributes to strengthening Albanian language education and fostering younger generations’ connection with the Albanian language and culture.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister of Education Ms Orjana Osmani; Consul General in Thessaloniki Ms Erida Dobrushi; President of the Association of Albanian Teachers in Greece Ms Klarita Selmanaj; Director of Economic Diplomacy, Culture and Diaspora at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania Ms Silvana Leskaj; Executive Director of the National Diaspora Agency Ms Ermonela Xhafa; Director of the Centre for Diaspora Publications Ms Mimoza Hysa; Ms Erida Koleci of ASCAP; diplomat Ms Joneda Dodaj; and Dr Stavri Dajo of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
