On 25 February 2022, in Hungary was held the Budapest Balkans Forum which was attended by Mr. Viliem Kurtulaj, Charge d'Affaires, a.i. The event, organized by the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, along with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, was attended by personalities such as Miroslav Lajčák, EU Special Representative for the Belgrade–Pristina Dialogue and other Western Balkan regional issues; Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, Special Envoy to the Western Balkans of the United Kingdom; Christian Schmidt, High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina; Nicolas Faye, Head of the Balkan Europe Department from the Continental Europe Directorate of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France; former MEP Mrs. Doris Pack, et al.
The focus of all panels was the future of the six Western Balkan countries. All participants were of the opinion that recent international developments have made it even clearer that the only destination of the Western Balkan countries is the European Union and, in these conditions, the integration process must be accelerated.
