The bust of Skanderbeg erected in Budapest

On July 5, 2021, in Városliget (City Park) a beautiful project that carries with it the symbolism of centuries-old friendship between Albanians and Hungarians was celebrated with a ceremony worthy to heroes. In the presence of the President of Albania, Mr. Ilir Meta, of the President of Hungary, Mr. János Áder, of the Mayor of Tirana, Mr. Erion Veliaj, of the Mayor of Budapest, Mr. Gergely Karácsony, of compatriots from Albania, Kosovo and other regions, as well as in the presence of many dear Hungarian friends, the bust of Skanderbeg, a hero to all Europeans who believe in the fight and resistance for a precious ideal, such as FREEDOM, was erected in Budapest. The metaphor of the castle, where many friends and colleagues, Albanians and Hungarians, have placed their stone as a contribution, fits best with this project. Unable to mention them all, we express our gratitude to President Ilir Meta, who as the patron of the bust of Skanderbeg together with the Speaker of Parliament László Kövér, has always had this symbolic project in his heart and has stood by him at all stages; to former Mayor of Budapest, Mr. István Tarlós, who spurred its realization; to the current Mayor of Budapest, Mr. Gergely Karácsony, who engaged the staff of the Municipality to see the completion of this project as soon as circumstances allowed. Last but not least, we are grateful to the Mayor of Tirana, Mr. Erion Veliaj, who, with will, perseverance, and kindness made tangible the idea of Skanderbeg's bust in Budapest. Circumstances and objective obstacles, according to history scholars, made it impossible for George Kastriota Scanderbeg and Hunyadi János to meet on the battlefield. We made it to bring our heroes together, here, in this symbolic place, in Budapest.
