Minister Pirro Vengu Meets Belgian Counterpart Theo Francken in Tirana

Albania’s Minister of Defence, Pirro Vengu, held an official meeting in Tirana with his Belgian counterpart, Theo Francken, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence.
The discussions focused on expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly through the organization of joint military exercises, enhanced operational interoperability, and the development of the defence industry. Both sides emphasized that these areas are key to strengthening defence capabilities and ensuring regional security.
Minister Vengu highlighted the importance of relations with Belgium, describing it as a key partner and a reliable ally within NATO. He underlined that cooperation with allied countries remains a central element of Albania’s security policy.
“It was a pleasure to welcome my Belgian counterpart, Theo Francken, to Tirana, a valued friend of our country. Together with Belgium, we are working to deepen cooperation in joint exercises, operational interoperability, and the defence industry, as part of our efforts to strengthen our capabilities and regional security,” Vengu stated.
Following the meeting, Vengu noted that Albania and Belgium share the same values and interests in the field of defence, adding that deepening this partnership will contribute to strengthening regional stability and security.
The meeting reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation with its allies, in support of its Euro-Atlantic integration and its role in the regional security architecture.
