Losing the Western Balkans is not an option for European Union, as this would seriously harm its credibility.
This was stated by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, during his speech at the Diplomatic Academy of Budapest, where he spoke about Albania’s perspective on the future of the Western Balkans.
Minister Hasani emphasized that today the region finds itself in a particularly unpredictable moment and that, according to him, integration into the EU is the only guarantee for a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Western Balkans.
“Albania’s role in promoting regional cooperation through the Berlin Process, its engagement with “historical enemies” , even at the risk of incurring political costs domestically and among Albanians in the region, is well known and is testament to our commitment to the idea of fostering cooperation and good neighborly relations.” he expressed
The Albanian Chief of Diplomacy also highlighted the importance of adopting a sustainable strategic approach by the EU towards our region and its integration.
“We believe that regional integration is a key factor for our future. It is essential for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and is decisive for integration into the EU. There is a decline in support for the EU integration process and a decline in trust in the EU. The Kosovo-Serbia dialogue must move forward, and the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina must be urgently addressed. Solving these two situations will undoubtedly remove two significant obstacles in the path of integration and regional cooperation,” declared Minister Hasani in his speech.
Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, is paying an official visit to Hungary. At the end of this visit, Minister Hasani will travel to Spain, where he is also conducting an official visit.
