The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, participated in a high-level meeting within the format of the EU General Affairs Council, organized for the first time by the Belgian Presidency of the EU Council, with a focus on the rule of law in the framework of the expansion process.
The Albanian chief diplomat reconfirmed Albania’s steadfast commitment to strengthening the rule of law and advancing the European integration agenda as he emphasized that enlargement has always and beyond any doubt been one of the most successful policies of the EU and is now considered of strategic importance, not only for the EU but for the entire Western Balkans.
During his speech, Minister Hasani focused on the path of continuous reforms, especially in the field of the rule of law.
“Albania has undertaken the most transformative justice reforms in the Western Balkans and beyond, which remains crucial for strengthening democratic values and ensuring economic progress.”
Among other things, the Albanian chief diplomat expressed commitment to anti-corruption reforms, increased transparency, integrity in public administration, while emphasizing the need for further support and cooperation from the European Union.
“We welcome the quick and timely implementation of the Growth Plan as part of the accelerated integration and we are ready to start negotiations for the core group. We must turn words and promises into concrete and real deeds. Let’s provide Europe to our citizens in every state of the region”.
The Foreign Ministers of EU member states and candidate countries participated in the informal meeting within the format of the EU General Affairs Council.
