
On 31.05.2017-1.06.2017, the Committee of Regions organized the "Enlargement Day" in Brussels. Enlargement Day is a forum organized for the third year, to discuss and support the EU enlargement process and in particular to encourage involvement at local and regional level.
On 31 May took place the meeting of the Working Group on WB. Our country was represented by the Ambassador of Albania to the European Union Mrs. Suela Janina and Mrs. Blerina Guga, Executive Director of the Regional Councils Association.
Ambassador Janina in her speech focused on the recommendation given by the European Commission to open negotiations, subject to concrete results in the justice reform and stressed that this process constitutes a top priority of the Albanian government, believing that progress will bring Albania closer to the EU and will enable the start of accession negotiations. Further on, the Ambassador underlined the constructive role of Albania in the regional cooperation process and the added value that the Berlin Process has given to this cooperation. The Ambassador thanked the European Commission, because through the recent project implemented in Albania "Municipalities for Europe" is helping to strengthen the administrative capacities of the local government and to increase their role in the European integration process.
On the 1st of June during the plenary session, it was reconfirmed that the Western Balkans have made progress on their path towards the EU integration and it was underlined the idea that local and regional government should be more involved in the integration process by giving their contribution so the positive effects can bring concrete results to the citizens of our countries.
