The 9th meeting of the EU-Albania Stabilization and Association Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security

The 9th meeting of the EU-Albania Stabilization and Association Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security took place on 28 April 2017, in Brussels.

The meeting was co-chaired for the Albanian side by the Deputy Minister of European Integration, Mrs. Eralda Çani and the representatives of the different ministries and other institutions attended. On the European side, the meeting was chaired by Ms. Michela Matuella, Head of Unit for Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Directorate General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission and the representatives of the DG NEAR, DG JUST and DG HOME attended.

The Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security addresses issues of the rule of law, focusing on the fulfillment by Albania of some of the key reforms, mainly in the justice sector, the measures taken in the fight against corruption and organized crime, measures for respecting and protecting the fundamental rights, including data protection, asylum and migration issues, counterterrorism measures, and judicial cooperation in criminal and civil matters. After a full and qualitative reporting by the Albanian institutions which demonstrated the achievements in these areas, the European Commission provided operational recommendations for a follow up or implementation of a number of key measures.
