Albania – Montenegro: First joint meeting of governments of Albania and Montenegro

Today, on 3 July 2018, it was held the first intergovernmental meeting between the Government of the Republic of Albania and the Government of Montenegro in Shkodra.

The focus of this meeting was the reinforcement of political dialogue and comprehensive cooperation, based on the excellent model of good neighbourly relations that the two neighbouring countries enjoy. Discussions focused on the development agenda, in particular the cross-border strip as a space linking the populations of our two countries, in order to increase prosperity and interactions between them. Special attention was paid to the enforcement of interaction within the common constructive engagement of the two countries in the region, to the cooperation in the framework of the Berlin Process, the improvement of standards, the removal of trade barriers, the deepening of measures for the creation of the Regional Economic Zone. To this end, the two Prime Ministers Rama and Markovic signed a Joint Declaration as a roadmap that identifies the key directions of cooperation, aiming to bring it to a new qualitative stage.

Several agreements and memorandums of cooperation were also signed between the two governments, including the Agreement on the opening of the Joint Border Crossing Point Zoga-Skje near Shkodra Lake which will stimulate mobility, tourist potentials and better interconnection between citizens of both countries and of the region.

The meeting was followed by a Business Forum between the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the two countries, in the presence of a large number of companies operating in Albania and Montenegro.
