
Minister of Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati received today the delegation of the US Congress (CODEL) headed by the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Bob Goodlatte who are visiting Albania in the framework of a wide regional tour.
The minister responded to the interest of the American Congress’ members and widely informed them on the progress of the reform process in the country focusing particularly on the importance of judicial reform, as one of the most important aspects for strengthening the rule of law in the country and advancing in the fulfillment of the priorities in the European integration. He explained the pace of reform implementation progress, underscoring that it is currently slowed down due to the boycott of Parliament by the opposition. Minister Bushati made also an overview of the situation and developments in the region, highlighted Albania's role and contribution in the fight against terrorism, measures taken by the government in cooperation with partner countries and organizations in the fight against corruption and organized crime, noted Albania's co-operation and contribution within NATO, as well as the situation of human rights in the country.
On behalf of the delegation, Chairman Goodlatte pointed out and congratulated for the progress he had seen in Albania and stressed the major importance of the implementation of judicial reform into building trust for Albanian citizens in justice and legality as well as economic and commercial operators who want to invest or do business in Albania.
Minister Bushati and the members of the American Congress stressed the importance of further strengthening close relations, strategic partnership and friendship between Albania and the United States of America
