On 26 May 26 2025, the 2nd Symposium dedicated to Albanian Studies took place at the University of Regensburg in Germany “Symposium on Language Ideologies and Attitudes of Albanian Heritage Speakers Worldwide: Approaching a New Field.”
Participants included scholars from the fields of linguistics, literature, and cultural studies, who discussed ways of preserving and transforming the Albanian language as a heritage language, both in German-speaking countries and beyond.
The Ambassador of Albania to Germany, Ms. Adia Sakiqi, in her keynote speech emphasized the importance of preserving the Albanian language, as a value of our identity, and called for cooperation between state institutions, academia, and the private sector. It is through such inclusive and cooperative efforts that we can develop sustainable strategies to support heritage language communities and promote cultural diversity in an increasingly interconnected world.
This symposium marked a major step in the internationalization of Albanian and Southeastern European Studies. It was organized by the Regensburg University, in the framework of SeeFfield, together with the Universities of Zurich & Hamburg and was funded by the Vielberth Foundation.
