On 16 November there was a full day event of Scanderbeg's celebrations at the prestigious British Academy in London. The event was a fruitful cooperation of Anglo-Albanian Association (AAA) with the Embassies of Albania and Kosovo in London.
The event started with an exhibition of antiquarian books about Scanderbeg, collected by Patricia Nugee. Then was screening of ‘Skënderbeu’, released in November 1953, recently re-mastered and shown with English subtitles. Jeff Charest, ethnomusicologist from Cardiff University, School of Music, played musical instruments from Scanderbeg’s time.
The event culminated with a symposium followed by discussions with speakers:
Professor Paskal Milo: ‘Scanderbeg and European Civilization’.
Professor Richard Hodges: ‘Butrint in the time of Scanderbeg and afterwards’.
Mr. Paul Quarrie: ‘The production and circulation of books in the 16th century’.
The event ended with a reception, where the Albanian soprano, Romina Bace, sung two arias from Vivaldi’s lost opera ‘Scanderbeg’. She was accompanied by a string quartet under the direction of another Albanian artist, Olsi Qinami.
