
The UK Secretary of State for Defence, Rt. Hon Michael Fallon, on 28-29 September 2016, paid an official visit to Albania. During this visit he was welcomed by his Albanian counterpart Ms. Kodheli, Minister of Defence, as well was accompanied by her in inspecting the Albanian and British troops in the military base of Biza in the framework of the joint exercise "Albanian Lion - 16".
This visit is an indication of strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the field of security and defence between the two countries. Speaking on cooperation Minister Kodheli said “it has produced concrete and tangible results towards meeting the common objectives, strengthening security, stability and regional development and beyond."
The UK Secretary of Defence Mr. Fallon said that “Albania is a key partner in Southern Europe, an ally which is meeting its security challenges through its NATO commitments and more. Troops from both of our countries enjoy the first class training facilities here, and I look forward to our countries working together further when the UK takes over the Very High Readiness Task Force next year."
Minister Kodheli assured her British counterpart for the firm stand of the Albanian government regarding the Alliance's commitment to enhancing the capacities of prevention and protection of the borders of NATO. "Albania will support any decision that NATO will take to protect the security, stability and peace in the country, the region and beyond."
Mr. Fallon during his official visit was also received by Prime Minister Edi Rama.
