During an official visit to Brussels, Speaker of the Albanian Parliament Niko Peleshi held meetings with the President of the Chamber of Representatives, Peter De Roover, and the President of the Senate of Belgium, Vincent Blondel.
The discussions highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Albania and Belgium, built on mutual respect, shared values, NATO partnership, and a joint commitment to regional stability and Albania’s European integration, as well as that of the Western Balkans.
In his meeting with President Peter De Roover, Speaker Peleshi emphasized the importance of parliamentary cooperation as a key mechanism for strengthening political and overall relations between the two countries. He expressed appreciation for Belgium’s continued support for Albania’s EU integration, particularly during its successful Presidency of the Council of the European Union. He reaffirmed that EU membership remains a strategic national objective for Albania, driven by merit-based progress, transformative reforms, and concrete results.
President De Roover praised Albania’s significant progress on its path toward the European Union and confirmed that Belgium will continue to support this process, stressing that EU accession will remain a priority in parliamentary cooperation.
In his meeting with Senate President Vincent Blondel, discussions focused on strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation, enhancing the rule of law, and exchanging experiences in reform processes. Speaker Peleshi acknowledged Belgium’s valuable expertise in justice, public administration, and law enforcement, as well as the close cooperation between the two countries’ institutions.
The talks also covered migration, cooperation in internal affairs, and opportunities for expanding economic relations. Speaker Peleshi underlined the role of the Albanian diaspora in Belgium as an important bridge between the two countries and expressed readiness to further promote bilateral cooperation.
Senate President Vincent Blondel emphasized the commitment to further strengthening bilateral and parliamentary relations, confirming Belgium’s continued support for Albania’s swift accession to the European Union.
The meetings in Brussels reaffirmed Belgium’s strong support for Albania’s European integration, a shared commitment to advancing bilateral partnership, and strengthening parliamentary cooperation in support of EU integration, regional stability, and peace.
The Speaker was accompanied by the Ambassador of Albania to Belgium, Albana Dautllari, and a parliamentary delegation including Members of Parliament Igli Hasani, Ulsi Manja, and Evis Kushi.
