The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, delivered her first speech in the Security Council, at the meeting on Women, Peace and Security.
Minister Xhaçka mentioned that the issue of Women, Peace and Security is the main priority of Albania’s agenda for the next two years.
According to her, it would be unforgivable if women were excluded from efforts aimed at international peace and security.
” First, support and resource relevant UN entities to provide all necessary protection and support to women human rights defenders. Second, create flexible funding mechanisms to act fast and respond rapidly when women leaders are faced with threats and reprisals. Third, improve funding of women-led and women’s rights organizations and movements in fragile or conflict-affected countries. Fourth, enhance accountability with regard to women and peace and security by committing to a zero-tolerance approach to reprisals against women activists and human rights defenders.”, stressed Minister Xhaçka during her speech.
On June 11, Albania was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, for 2022-2023. This is one of the greatest achievements in international diplomacy for Albania.
